ARCA: The Experimental Diva

Tim Walker works with Venezuelan musician, singer/songwriter Arca and Vogue Mexico/January 2022 to deliver pure art. Arca’s lates project ‘KICK’ has recently released.

“I have spent a lot of time fighting to be unique, independent and self-sufficient, to be my own island,” she says. “To interact with and personify the archetype of a diva – or even a witch – you need an antidote to that hardening of feelings, and sometimes that can mean becoming a kind of mutant Stepford wife, in a self-reflective way. . I love making salads for my boyfriend and imagining myself wearing a wedding dress one day, and it really is something I want. As cheesy as it sounds, queer living and heteronormative love fantasies may seem contradictory, but other times they seem so analogous, particularly to me.
